Rupert Kirkwood, aka The Lone Kayaker, takes us on a kayak safari around Devon and Cornwall, introducing us to some of the remarkable creatures he has encountered. Otters, beavers, seals, sharks, puffins, dolphins, giant tuna, whales... and a swimming squirrel to name just a few. Over the years Rupert has paddled every inch of the coast of SW England, including out to every island, up every creek and into every sea cave. The talk will be illustrated with stunning photography of wildlife as seen from the kayak as he paddles around the coast.
About the Speaker: Rupert Kirkwood worked as a farm vet in West Devon for 33 years but had to take early retirement after a succession of injuries. He now combines his lifelong interests by spending as much time as possible observing the wild watery world from the quiet unobtrusiveness of his kayak. He has sliced across waters in or around all seven continents, clocking up over 38,000 miles afloat over the last 20 years, but his favourite bit of ocean has always been right here on his doorstep in Devon and Cornwall.
